Back Pain Relief Treatment

Spinal Epidural Injections

Reasons to perform the procedure

This injection procedure is performed to relieve Neck & Low back and radiating hand & leg pain. Anti-inflammatory medication can reduce the swelling and inflammation caused by spinal conditions. In some cases, it may be necessary to repeat the procedure as many as three times to get the full benefit of the medication. Many patients get significant relief from only one or two injections.

Before the procedure

You will be examined thoroughly and the diagnosis is confirmed by imaging like CT or MRI. You will be informed where and when to report for the procedure. You may be asked not to eat or drink after midnight the night before. You will be examined by your doctor and asked to rate your pain.

Description of the procedure

Your consent will be obtained. You will lie on your stomach for the procedure. The skin on your back or neck will be cleaned with antiseptic and numbed with medication. A needle will be inserted through the skin, and the anti-inflammatory medication along with a local anesthetic (numbing medication) will be injected into the epidural space.

After the procedure

It will take at least 24-48 hours to work, so you may have a temporary increase in pain. You will be discharged shortly after the procedure.

Follow-up

You will receive further instructions from your doctor.

Balloon Kyphoplasty

Reasons to perform the procedure

Balloon Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to help alleviate pain and improve mobility for people with compression fractures of the vertebra, generally caused from osteoporosis or spinal tumor. Pain, associated with compression fractures, is largely due to bone rubbing on bone during movement.

Under fluoroscopic (X-ray) guidance a needle is inserted into the fractured vertebra. Once in place, a balloon is inserted through the needle and inflated to restore vertebral height. Bone cement is injected into the vertebra for fixation of the fracture. Once the cement hardens this helps to stabilize the bone and helps to prevent further collapse.

After the procedure

You will experience an immediate pain relief after the procedure. After observation for recommended hours, you will be discharged.

Radio Frequency Ablation in Spine

Reasons to perform the procedure

This minimally-invasive procedure, also called radiofrequency (RF) rhizotomy, reduces or eliminates the pain of damaged facet joints by disrupting the medial branch nerves that carry the pain signals. Also for Sciatica and Brachialgia, radiating nerve pain in legs and hands, DORSAL ROOT GANGLION BLOCK provides a promising result.

Under fluoroscopic (X-ray) guidance a needle is inserted through the skin after numbing that area with local anesthetics. With slightly stimulating the target nerve with radio frequency, ablation done for 90 to 180 seconds.

After the procedure

You will experience an immediate pain relief after the procedure. After observation for recommended hours, You will be discharged.

Provocative Discogram & Ozone Discolysis

Reasons to perform the procedure

The provocative discogram is a diagnostic procedure to help identify which disc(s), if any, are causing pain (discogenic pain). The walls of the discs may develop tears (fissures) or the disc walls may weaken and bulge (herniation), both conditions may be a result of age or injury. A provocative discogram increases the pressure inside the disc and may reproduce pain.

Ozone discolysis is a therapeutic procedure which is done to shrink the disc size in case of the disc bulge.

Under fluoroscopic (X-ray) guidance a needle is inserted into the target disc with a fine spinal needle, dye injected to study the disc morphology in case of discogram and Ozone injected in case of Ozone discolysis.

After the procedure

You will experience pain relief after a week. After observation for recommended hours, You will be discharged.
